Welcome, Cap'n Pace

Welcome, Cap’n Pace

No, the title of this latest Cap’n’s Blog doesn’t mean yours truly is steppin’ down. It just means that our brigade has had a stroke of very good fortune as of late. That’s because none other than Cap’n William Pace has relocated to our corner of the ‘verse, and he’ll be runnin’ with our crew for the foreseeable future. In case you’re not familiar with Cap’n Pace, let me treat you to a quick bio.

William Pace has been an avid fan of “Firefly” since it first aired on Fox back in 2002, but he first became an active part of the wider Browncoats community when he served as a co-organizer of Can't Stop the Serenity in Salt Lake City in 2008 along with his brother Andrew. It was then that he had the opportunity to meet fellow graphic artist Geoffrey Mandel, who was the special guest at the event that year. (Mr. Mandel worked on the motion picture “Serenity” and designed the logo that has come to be associated with both the movie and the ship of that name. He also recently designed a new logo for Can’t Stop the Serenity’s global brand that will make its debut soon.) Since 2008, William has helped run charity events in Eagle Mountain, Fort Douglas, Holladay, Hyrum, Logan, and Salt Lake City, Utah, and he continues to serve as the Cap’n of the charity board of the Utah Browncoats Society.

In 2010, William joined Can’t Stop the Serenity’s global team, and he has served multiple times as the Global Event Coordinator for CSTS charity events. In addition to those duties, he also served CSTS in a global capacity for 13 years in various roles, including Sponsorship Coordinator, Shepherd and Patch Coordinator. If you have a CSTS patch in your collection, there’s a good chance that William Pace was involved in its design or production— or maybe both.

As a graphic artist, William has official “Firefly” designs in several publications and two licensed games, and he’s also been on the teams of six fan-produced films. Over the years, he has served on the planning committees of no less than four Browncoat Ball events, and he is proud to serve actively in various capacities to assist the Virtual Shindig, The Independents, the California Browncoats, the Utah Browncoats Society and the Firefly Archive.

And now we’re fortunate enough to have him here working with the Rivers and Bridges Brigade of the Pennsylvania Browncoats and Can’t Stop the Serenity Pittsburgh. If you need some perspective as to how huge that is, just remember the excitement and anticipation that everybody felt in this town when the Steelers signed Aaron Rodgers! I’m not exaggeratin’ one bit when I tell you it’s kinda like that. And believe me when I tell you we’ll be takin’ full advantage of everything that William brings to the table, especially with our annual Can’t Stop the Serenity event on the horizon and our aspirations to host the Browncoat Ball in Pittsburgh in 2027.

So, with this Cap’n’s Blog, I’d like to take the opportunity to wish William Pace an official and long-overdue welcome to the Rivers and Bridges Brigade. We’re all manner of happy to have him sailin’ with us.

And that just about wraps this one up. I’ll be back sooner rather than later with details about our 2026 Can’t Stop the Serenity Pittsburgh charity screening, which breaks atmo next month. Until then, keep flyin’.
