Our Next Shindig Is Going to Slay

I’d be lying if I said I weren’t anxious to tell you all about the Big Damn Shindig that eleven members of our brigade attended in Newhall, California last month to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the motion picture Serenity.  That’s going to have to wait, though, because the spooky season is already upon us, and there’s something really exciting on the moonlit horizon that I’m practically dying to let you know about.  Calling all Scoobies, Watchers, Scream Queens, Slayers and Potentials out there– we’re planning a special shindig just for you!

On Sunday, November 2, 2025, Jump Cut Theater and the Rivers & Bridges Brigade of the Pennsylvania Browncoats (the same crew behind Pittsburgh’s annual Can’t Stop the Serenity screenings) will present a very special charity event that’s been years in the making.  We’ll be screening the original 1992 cult classic film Buffy the Vampire Slayer, the movie that was the basis for the series that redefined pop culture television of the late 90’s and early 2000’s.

The event will take place at Kingfly Spirits in the Strip District from 5-9pm.  Doors will open at 5pm, and the movie will screen at 6pm.  Prior to the screening, those in attendance will be able to test their Sunnydale smarts with Buffy (TV) trivia and enter drawings to win all sorts of Buffy-themed prizes while basking in the spooky vibes. Costumes are not required, but we’re certainly still encouraging those who attend to come in costume — whether they choose to go full Slayer, Scream Queen, Halloween ghoul, Reaver, zombie space pilot or Día de los Muertos chic.  After the movie, there will still be ample time to mingle, enjoy a beverage and maybe even dance (macabre?).

A minimum $10.00 donation is required for admission, but additional donations are welcome.  All monetary donations will benefit Stomp Out Bullying in honor of Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV cast member Michelle Trachtenberg, whom we lost earlier this year.  In addition, we will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.  Those who bring a food item will receive ten entries in the evening’s drawings, plus five additional entries for each additional food item they donate.

Advance tickets are available for purchase online through Jump Cut Theater, and they’ll also be sold at the door the evening of the event.

So, join us as we revisit the movie that was the origin of a pop-culture phenomenon that inspired a generation.  I can promise you this dead man’s party is sure to be one shindig no body would want to miss! I hope to see you there, and until then…

Keep flyin’.
